Women and Spirituality
The Journal of Interdisciplinary Feminist Thought invites contributions for its next issue: “Women and Spirituality.” Taking an expansive approach to the topic, we seek papers that explore the experience or study of spirituality within religious traditions, and those that examine the secular experiences of the spirit.
Papers reflecting the interests of all disciplines are welcome. Manuscripts should evidence original and current scholarship, be 20-25 pages in length, typed, and formatted according to the accepted method for the discipline. All submissions should include an abstract of 50 -100 words. We encourage collaboration, and welcome scholarly works of joint authorship, or papers co-authored with student researchers Possible topics include, but are not limited to the following:
- Spirtuality or spiritualities? Women’s experience of the Spirit in relationship to the established spiritual traditions of organized religion.
- Challenges to dualism: women’s experience of Body and Spirit
- Subversive spiritualities within patriarchal cultures and religions
- Women’s spiritual practices
- Recovering the feminine spirit of religious traditions
- Women and the yearning for transcendence
- Re-examining women’s experience of suffering and spirituality
- Psychological studies of women’s spirituality
- Race and women’s spirituality
- Historical perspectives on women, spirituality, and power
